As a follow-up to my Oakland Roadster Show Customs thread , here are some photos of the Hot Rods from the same 1953 show. Some of these photos have the owners in them and closeups of the cars. I think it is cool to study the backgrounds and fashions to get a real feel for the era! Frank Rose future AMBR Blackies future AMBR
Look at the finish on this Rod, and it's strictly a racer. Clean car, and this guy knows how to dress. Class act. ...
Thanks for the great pics Ron,is that a Tucker I see behind the Frank Rose roadster in the background of the picture ? Probably not........im pretty tired ,its been long day.
Classy dressing was certainly part of a guys wardrobe back then. Most guys had cool suits and dressed for special occasions. Pegged pants and slim belts. 1953 was a great year for things automotive anjd coolness.
Sharp eye Jeff! That is a Tucker , it was on display as a Special Exhibit. It seems that even in 1953, the Tucker was still a big news story surrounded with controversy. Here is the story that was in the program.....Interesting!
Ron,Thanks for posting the writeup about the Tucker.I thought I spotted it but wasn't sure, like I said...it was a long day.Must of really been something to go to this great show and see a Tucker in the building.I love those cars.
Awesome!!! Love this car it's the one on the Cover of R&C in the 50's with copper paint? Also cool the see the Lee's Speed Shop streamliner.
Great post Ron. Yep, same car though it was painted a Emerald Green like colour, filled 1/4 windows, from memory Gene Winfield had a hand in it. That is Gene's shop & that is Gene working on the custom convert. Also the June '53 R&C cover car. (got this scan off ebay)
R&C RON - Great stuff! ... Thanks for taking the time to scan these pics and sharing them with us here on the H.A.M.B. ... Much appreciated!
