A buddy of mine just gave me this original Moon Tank that he used racing in his 55 Chevy back in the 70's down in LA.Wasnt sure whether I should use it,but have decided I like the look and have just finished making the brackets. Will use it as an auxiliary back up fuel tank in combination with the original.
Mine's a swap meet clone, that had a fugly chrome gas cap on it. I had a knockoff hub and spinner, so I cut it down to fit over the neck, and setscrewed it to the neck, so I'd have a better looking cap. It also had ugly black steel bracket and straps. I cut the bracket down and used 10-24 threaded rod, with clear tubing to mount it.
Here is mine. I've had it about 12 years collecting dust. It was actually from an old monster truck from the 80's. The Texas Ranger.
this one is an original Australian Bill Croft ( Idlewild ) tank from the Sixties it will be coolant overflow tank for the Hemi in this thing
Well I did when the car was built 9 years ago,it was my overflow.I took it off and put another overflow tank under the hood,so now my moon tank is used for looks. It's always off and on the car.
Plumb it for gas and put race fuel in it. I used a mid eighties pickup tank solenoid. Very much worth it for me as I can set my blower boost retart to 0 and make a bunch more power than when running 87 with timing retard.

Does anybody have any idea the diameter and thread count of the Moon spinner type cap? I have an old off brand tank that is in good shape, built some brackets for it, but I don't have a cap and would like something that would look good through the toneau cover for the bed. The neck is 2 1/2"X16 thread.
A new style cap or an old style? New caps are threaded on the inside and old caps are threaded on the outside. I've got an old style I can measure.
^What he said. I have a new cap and old cap available to measure. I think you can buy the new cap with a threaded weld in style bung, so you could just cut out your old filler neck and weld in the new.
This has external threads on the tank itself, so I guess I would need the later style. Just hoping I could just buy the cap itself and not get concerned about the bung, but if I have to I will get both.
