Hi guys, I picked up this hubcap at an antique store yesterday. Never have seen one like it. I have scoured the interwebs for info on this thing and have been reluctant so far. I don't see any other stamping or marking on it anywhere. Does anyone happen to have any info on these? What decade are they from? US made? Thanks!
That's an old "replacement" hubcap. The manufacturers wouldn't put actual Ford or Plymouth or whatever logos on there because of copyright issues.
These just sold recently in the classifieds. I'm pretty sure it's the same deal as yours but, it's hard to tell who actually made them as I'm sure there were lots of them back in the day.
I did not realize until this thread that my ex-wife had a airplane and hub caps named after her...............
Haha that would be a nice touch. I figured these were in no way related to anything developed by Holman Moody but still interesting. Moody is my last name so that's one of the main reasons that I picked it up also, couldn't help myself!
Probably 50's/60s trailer hubcaps; lots of small trailer manufacturers had 'name' hubcaps like these to identify their product.
I like Lou Wells' explanation..............now I'll be looking for one that just says......CRAZY WOMAN!
"I had a moody trailer that i bought with a new boat in 1964. the mfg. company for moody was in MABEN, MISSISSIPPI. it is on miss. county rd 15 just north of state rd hwy 82 west of starkville miss." Google is a wonderful thing
Now this is useful info! Sorry, until today, I had no knowledge of Moody trailers. Sometimes knowing what you're looking for really helps, even with Google!
To op.IIRC that the aircraft company that you are thinking of is"Mooney"not Moody. Good luck.Have fun.Be safe. Leo
most of the aftermarket replacement hubcaps had a similar name to what was on the original. I've see Ford Deluxe hubcaps with "the deluxe" stamped in, Chevrolet hubcaps where the bowtie was just a rectangle and some Dodge ones where it looked like Dodge but was really just squares and odd shapes
