  4. This is the show the Street Rods Forever started about 15 years ago. This year, some asshole on the Monrovia city council decided the city could do a better job, and keep all the proceeds, by cutting the SRE club out. The SRE has done all the work promoting the show, at their own expense, and shared the take with the city of Monrovia. And for that, they get this kind of shit pulled on them. They approached the city of Pasadena about having the show there, and were welcomed with open arms. 32Steve, and I did the show last month, and it turned out very nice. Some guy from Monrovia had the balls to show up and start tossing flyers for their show in the cars. Some SRE members "escorted" him out of the area. The Street Rods Forever is a well respected club in the San Gabriel valley, with a long history. Most rodders I know support them, and will boycot the Monrovia show. My .02

I feel bad about the politcs but I went anyway. I was very dissapointed to see new cars from our local car dealer and all the street fair crap like incesnce and shoes. It took away from my old cars viewing enjoyment. I did make a new friend and I will go to the Street rods forever car shows.

Dean has it right. This whole deal was pretty fucked. The guy who took it over is the owner of Jake's Roadhouse. Pretty much fucked Street Rods Forever out of the event. Last year- SRF had over 500 cars- this year, I bet it was a little less. Originally- he had the Monrovia show planned for 9/29/08- so Street Rods Forever planned their Pasadena show the same day & sent flyers to every past entrant on the list. When they found out about it- they moved the Monrovia show. Planning a show in front of the Pasadena city hall was a nightmare. City is about as anti-car show as you can get. Bunch of shit. Fees were insane. Had to buy every parking meter within the show area, pay a huge cleaning deposit for dripping oil (It's on the fucking street!), pay off a barber because the show would hurt his biz & at the last minute- hire an ambulance to stand by just in case. I can guarantee it will be somewhere else next year.
I didn't go today & would never go.

FYI- I was a member of SRF back in the 80's (with my 29 & 40 Fords) and recently re-joined the club. Don't let the name "Street Rods Forever" fool you! Lots of people in the club like Don Small (Bell Auto Parts), Andy Casale (Casale Engineering), Fred Badberg (frantic Fred's Hot Rods) Joe Eddy (Eddy's Rod Shop), Pat Ganahl (freelance- TRJ), Joe Felty (Headwinds- headlights), Phil Lukens (Blair's Speed Shop), Jim Gordon (Obsolete Ford Parts), Tom Schiffilea (Nostalgia A/Gas & former owner of the Doyle Gammel car & best friend) and probably a dozen more I can't recall right now. The past member list reads like a who's who in cars.

I'm not surprised at all the trinket booths. He has no clue how to host a car show.

As a Monrovian that has enjoyed walking down to the show every year with my son (my car is sill in pieces) I could not believe what I saw this year. Family Festival Productions has no business running a car show. I felt so sorry for the folks that showed up expecting a repeat of last years great show. It had been growing every year. I have been stewing about it all weekend so I just finished writting to the mayor and all of the city council members (in a nice polite way). I sure hope that there is some way that things can be worked out so SRF can be back next year. Monrovia is a great little town and I would sure hate to see them lose the quality type show like last years was.
