What year did Modified Proctuction become a class ? Thx
I know friends that where running M/P in 65 I don't know exactly when it started, maybe 64.
Pat you are correct, modified production made its debut in NHRA for 1964, classes A/MP thru E/MP.
Thought this might me a useful link for this thread. I've been working my way through it for the last while (lots of material here, it's amazing!) and I've noticed a lot of posts referencing whether or not the engine and trans had to me of the same make as the car. Chevy in a Chevy, Ford in a Ford, etc. I've even seen some posts saying unmodified factory heads were required.
Looking all the way back to the '64 rule book (first year MP is listed) it says any American automobile engine, year, make, and model optional. Same for transmissions and rear ends. It also says any modifications may be made, with only a limit on number of carbs used, and no FI. This section doesn't seem to change at any point.
I've been referencing this collection for years for various things. Currently I'm looking to the '66 and '67 edition for my Biscayne build, along with this thread, for maximum authenticity.
