after searching all over here and other sites i've come to learn that the stock transverse rear spring perches for a Model A should be mounted about 49.5 or 49 1/4 inches apart to allow for the 2.5 shackles and enough distance to mount the spring under load.

the project i picked up ame with what i was told is a ford 8in out of grenada or maverick. i just measured it and its barely 49 inches between backing plates. the spring i have is 40.5 inches center eye to center eye. if i add 2.5 inches to each side is 2 inches enough distance to spread the Model A spring to load it properly?

if not ill have to either look for a new axle or a new spring.

    thanks all

  2. Posie makes a narrow Model A spring that mounts on 47 1/2" perch centres.

Worth a stab to hook it up and see what it looks like before getting too excited or spending extra money. Then if it doesn't look or feel right you go to plan B.
