Looking for some ideas to make a luggage rack for my model a coupe. Has anyone made on yet? And if so anyone have pics. The can be photos of anything model a to give ideas on mounting! Was thinking about mounting to the drip rails but don't know how much weight they can take. Any help would be appreciated .

Put a receiver hitch on the back of it (it can be hidden under the car) and use one of those luggage racks that slips into it. HF has them made out of aluminum if you don't feel like building one. http://www.harborfreight.com/500-lb-capacity-aluminum-cargo-carrier-92655.html Thats kind of bulky though or http://www.harborfreight.com/500-lb-capacity-deluxe-cargo-carrier-66983.html
You could build one to just fit the stuff you have to take though.

When you get there you pull it off an leave it with the tent or in the motel room.

You could probably modify one of those ski rack setups that you see running around on the top of a lot of cars all the time to work on the A and build a rack to hold your stuff to go on that.

I got a good idea on shape and how I'm gonna make. Just need to figure a good way to mounting it up. Wanted to see pics if anyone has any.

There used to be European cars out there with permanent little chrome sockets set into the roof that took luggage racks with special legs. Peugot comes to mind (but the correct spelling doesn't). I agree with the VW stuff...some of that is pretty well styled for oldm car use, the curved tubing types.

I know this post is old but I dig this coupe and would like to do the same when I make my trip form the east coast to the Salt Flats. Sorry if it has a Tractor grill as some will hate but its one of my favorite A's

Can someone please tell me how this mounts? Does it just bolt on?

Thats pretty kool if your planning for long trips.. I dont't see anything wrong with the VW style racks.. As long as your not planning to hall a refrigerator you would be fine and just double check how rusted your drip rails are before running a VW rack..
    Good Luck.

Any updates to this? I have thought of the small trailer/hitch attached rack but it doesn't work for me. I like the roof top idea. Any thoughts on which VW rack fits the standard drip rails on my '30 coupe? Weight issues (want to carry pop-up canopy, and some extra items that I can't get into trunk)? Other thoughts on a roof rack (please be nice!) to fit and be able to take off when not needed?
