wich years had cast or stamped? do they interchange? what is correct for 31 p'up? currently has stamped, but somebody tried to reinforce them and welded them to the frame, they are trash...
i haven't been able to put together a real pattern but i think i've seen more 28-29's with cast ones. might try looking at snyders website.
28,29, and early 30 ( at least through April, mine was built 4/30/30 ) had the forged ones, Late 30 and 31 had the stamped ones.
I have just went thru this entire front fender bracket dance with my 31. The 28/29 series were forged, and look kinda like a big old mudcat whisker---and they only fit 28 and 29 cars. The 1930 ones were forged, but were thinner in cross section than the 28 and 29 series ones. The 1931 units were made from a pressed sheet metal. as far as I know, the 30 and 31 units are interchangeable. All the different year fender brackets will fit the bolt pattern in the frame, but the fenders on 28 and 29's had a different shape than the 30 and 31 cars. If you buy aftermarket fender braces, they are made from pressed steel, but have a thicker cross section than the stock 31 pressed steel units, and will interfere with the inside of your front tires on a sharp corner, if you are running a 4" dropped axle with a reversed eye spring in a stock model A frame with a stock model a crossmember. I don't think any of the fender braces were ever cast---they were all forgings.---Brian --- I'm pretty sure that sedans, coupes, roadsters and roadster pickups and light pickups (not the AA series) all used the same front fender support brackets and fenders for any particular year.
sounds good, thanks fella's brian, figured you chime in here sooner or later... i rememer that you were working on yours
