I starting to question if painting a Model A's frame to match the the body color would improve the appearance of the car? I know the perfect solution would be to paint the body & chassis Gloss Black & have the best of both worlds, but I can't afford a great gloss Black paintjob. Any examples of matching chassis & body on fenderless As?
I always thought on a ''Hot rod" No fenders could have any color frame you wanted but with fenders a black frame was more old style hot rod than a body color painted or contrasting color frame being a bit on the street roddy side.
Welllll.... 'Hot rods' to some look proper when everything looks all mixed up, parts and pieces having been gathered from a myriad of sources...Not to me. In the late '50s, I got a bunch of friends started on Model A hot rod projects...Most just wanted their cars in black primer...Finished! A couple of us finished our cars then blew them apart, cleaned and sanded everything, and proceeded to finish in shiny paint. Jim Pillsbury finished his '32 roadster (Highboy) in red body on top of black Deuce rails. We ragged on him about a "Two-Tone" paint job..."Looks like a '55 Plymouth!" Pills agreed, and pulled the body to paint the frame and axles red. My '30 channeled roadster got black, body over '32 rails. Looked like ONE car.
i always liked an ivory frame. here's an example http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/media/albums/1930-coupe-done.14267/
If on a 32 frame, same color as body is OK, but if on an A frame I think the frame should always be black.. Just my thoughts...
I went with a black body and dark maroon frame and motor. This was in 1980. Sorry bout the vette rear fellows. It's what it was back then. Full fenders , doesn't show much anyway
