I put this Model A frame together to go under my 30 coupe. Logan Davis and Chuck of Vintage Performance Automotive in Santa Clarita CA did all the dialing in final welding and came up with a cool way to mount the T-5 buy hanging it from above. Jeff Jones aka "Nailhead Jeff" built the flathead. Mostly old Ford parts with a few modern add-ons.
Thanks HRP, the hanger clears up the side view. The only visible cross member is the wishbone ball mount.
Thanks All The ball mount crossmember is just a Ford AA truck that's been cut and bent to fit. The spindles are 32 along with the axle (Thanks 296 V8) and the arms were set up by Dennis Lacy to work with the drop.
To remove engine/trans with body on, the top two bolts on the Transmission top come out leaving the hanging crossmember with cushions in place. Also the brake pedal cross linkage can unbolt to allow for more swinging space. Logan Davis takes servicing the car into account when he's doing his fabrication work. He changed more than a few things that I had made. Can't say enough about his workmanship and ability.
Nice setup, clean and well thought out. Care to share the details regarding connecting the T5 to torque the tube drive line - home brewed or was it a kit? How difficult was it to install?
T5 to Torque is one of CrazyDaddyO's adapters. It is very well engineered and made and is a breeze to put together. Torque Tube/axle had to be shortened but the Lincoln Radius Arms were almost a direct bolt on. I used Dwight Bond's adapter for the flathead to T5. Another really well made and designed part.
Do you have any more pictures of the front wishbone mounts and just of the frame in general? Any side pictures? I think you nailed it perfectly.
Here's a close up of the wishbone mount. It started out as a AA center crossmember which was cut down, heated, bent, hammered, welded and was made so it could be unbolted.
Nice! So is that a 4x4 s10 t5? Wanting to do the same setup but on a 33 Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Yes Sir, 4x4 s10 I think 1986 model but don't quote me...I tried to figure out a way to move the shifter forward about 8 inches as that's where it would be with a Ford 3 speed. Right now it will be just in front of the seat.
I really like this build! I will definitely be considering that t-5 mount for my own project. Thanks for sharing!
