With a pullmax you can use press board for the whole thing to make a few panels. I used metal because I think I'll get use out of the x's pattern in the years to come. I've never tried this method using an air hammer but I don't think wood would work very long. Aluminum would work ok to do at least one set of pans. Aluminum is easier to cut. You can even use a wood router and table with carbide to cut the slots.

The hammer you have is going to hit hard. Maybe to hard but give it a try. A smaller muffler gun might give better control.

Thanks! I'll try both guns just out of curiousity.

Nothing to update at this time. I've been working on a 383 chrysler for someone else and building a new handrail for the front step of my house. I should be able to work on the seats this weekend if I dare to drive to the shop. We are supposed to get 8 to 14 inches of snow starting tonight. Here is a picture of the handrail just for the hell of it.

Cool handrail, Jeff! We may get some spring weather here, too...

Dyce I just found your thread this evening. I have a decades old coupster project that I keep working on as time allows. The fact that you and others show how you make jigs and "special tools" to achieve your desired outcomes is the reason I lurked so long and finally joined the HAMB. I don't have near your skills, but following all of your examples leads me to figure out how to use what I have at hand to produce what I want. Sometimes you see a dirt simple solution before you reinvent the wheel, sometimes after. Meanwhile I'll keep on making scrap metal until each part looks like I want it to.

I've already extended the panel in front of the deck lid (tail end of the car just looked too short and the passenger compartment too long). My door and rear caps are going to be different in design but your construction methods will shorten my R&D. Thank-you

X-coupe I'm glad to here my posting progress can help and inspire another person as crazy as me. If you want it bad enough it will happen. There is nothing wrong with using what you have laying around. That' what hotrodding is all about!!

Thanks guys! Sorry to say I packed it up and put it on the back burner once more. I'm hoping to have the shop ready to work full time out of it by the end of the summer. Not 100% sure what kind of work I'll be doing yet, but it will be me making the choice for a change.

Stairway is superb. Stanchions are hammer-formed?

Oh and here is a picture of the hammer form I used. I had to heat the sheetmetal to get much of the detail. 20180401_205413.jpg

I wish! I plan on pulling my 40 apart this winter to freshen it up. full-6.jpg
Pull the engine to reseal it, new exhaust, have the seats redone, new rear suspension. It's long overdue.

No snow yet, that picture is a couple of years old. Thanks for your interest and checking up on me though. I might be starting a new thread on the 40 when I get started on it. Most likely next year.

I'm back on the model a for a while I hope. I found some seats from a 69 MG B. I started on a center piece for the back wall. I'm not quite sure about it yet but I intended to make it similar to the 32 shell. 20191022_111938.jpg I have a 32 shell that has 2 inches out of it but I don't care for it. I ordered a 32 radiator from Superior that's chopped 1 inch. I plan on using a full height 32 shell I have with the sides cut. I made a repair panel for it today. 20191022_111919.jpg

I'll try to take better pictures for my next post. I found if I flip/edit the picture on my phone they won't upload.

A little more progress on the back wall. I took a different approach with the center. 20191104_115218.jpg 20191104_111557.jpg
I like the seats, I think this will make them look more at home.

I like the repeat of the windshield line but be careful you could hurt yourself on that pointy part.

It will be behind the seats and shouldn't be a problem .

I got it welded in. I still plan on doing something with the point. It needs to be blended in better.
