The local Sheriff's department called the boss the other day. A landowner found a car in their pond last Saturday. If we help get it out and there is no foul play or stolen records on it, we can have it.

They have owned the land since '70 and believe that the car must have been there before they bought the place.

Today he got the call. They found nothing around the car to make it a crime scene and they are practice diving with it - come and get it. So when we get there they are messing with a new video system and we see a red Porsche 356 in the mucky bottom. A little while later, the divers come for cables and instructions on what to tie to. A few tries, and the car starts its ride to the edge.

Things are not looking so good as it gets further out of the water. It started breaking up as it came up onto shore.

We got it back to the yard and found that the car was a bit rough when it went in the drink. A bit of bondo was used to cover up the rockers and some accident work in the rear. Tomorrow we will start the search for a serial number.

    Anyone looking for a project?

Poor thing. It'll be hard to save anything off of that one. Does make you wonder how it got there though.

The property owner wanted it out. You can see it was mostly in one piece until we got it completely out of the water.

Drain the gas tank, put new petrol in it......you'll be right. Oh, but if it were me, I'd put a towel on the seats

I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be a stolen ride someone ditched.

Keep an eye out for any bones you might find in there - and I ain't talking fish bones.

  24. I agree, it was probably stolen or hidden for some other reason. You may never know, unless a serial number turns up and can be checked out.

But hey, someone might need that back window. Anyone for the world's shittiest Porsche?

There is a pissed off Cat Fish right now want ing to know why some one stold his bachelor pad!

I would just wait until the guy is not home and push it back in the pond. At least drive it out on the ice this winter and take bets on what day it drops through come spring.

If it was stolen, which I bet it was, the records will have long been purged from LEDS/NCIC, and DMV. Your local law may have a microfiche copy of a paper report from 40 years ago, good luck with that one! NICB, National Insurance Crime Bureau, may have a record going back that far, but if you locate a readable VIN, I'd ask Porsche America to look it up for you. They keep records of all the cars they ever made. Might be a lead to whoever owned it, then you can get your money back for the tow!
