The car with the most famous history is the white # 1 Boyle car. It was campaigned from 1931 to almost 1950. It was purchased new in 1931 from the famous builder Harry Miller by "Umbrella Mike" Boyle a Chicago "union leader". The car was converted to cross springs in 1935 by Cotten Henning. The car was sold to Russ Snowberger in 1937.

    Some highlights
Driven at Legion Ascot Dec 1931 and Jan 1932 by lou Moore
Driven by "Wild Bill" Cummings 1932 thru 1936
Won Langhorne, Detroit, and Roby Speedway in 1932
Won Pikes Peak 1938 as the "Loop Cafe Special"--Louie Unser driving
Won Pikes Peak 1939 as the "Bowes Sealed Fast"--Louie Unser driving
Won Pikes Peak 1941 as the "Burd Piston Ring Special"--Louie Unser driving
Driven at Milwaukee, Syracuse, Williams Grove by Russ Snowgerger
Driven at Langhorn 1946 as the "Auto Shippers Special"--Hal Robson & Walt Brown driving
Driven at Indianapolis 1947 as the "Superior Industries Special"

The car is shown in its 1935 livery as the Boyle-Cummings National Championship car

The longevity of these early cars is amazing. This car started out as a state of the art Miller in 1931 and 16 years later it could qualify and race in the Indy 500.

Yes you do it's the Boyle car the white #1. You can see the three plugs in your pictures of the top of the engine. It takes two mags to fire them, one single sparker driven normaly off the front of the engine and a two sparker driven off the motor plate on the back

That lathe is an American Pacemaker with a 36" swing and a 14 foot bed. Just perfect for restoring watches.

  22. Great pictures. The only thing is why do you use European type dating? The metric system did not catch on here so why are we trying to change the month, day and year?

The local law enforcement are using this dating system. Is this some new law that we have to convert so we do not offend somebody?

Day light savings time is another issue. There is a joke about Arizona and an old Indian. Only a stupid white man would cut off a foot of a blanket and sew it on the other end and think he has a longer blanket.

Never under estimate the power of a group of stupid people.

This car is powered by a supercharged Miller four. Steve's father campaigned this car in the 30's and 40's and won many races including a feature at Jungle Park.[IMG]

This is a picture of the supercharged Miller that powers the car. The blower is right up against the firewall and the two updraft D Winfields are in the cockpit between the drivers knees--perhaps someone should have had a little safety conversation with the builder.[IMG]
