Have anyone made a copy "replica" of the 1935 Miller Ford flathead exhaust cast iron header. I Would probably buy one
Neat, but they only fit if the engine faces backwards. And, it will cook the lube out of your steering box and you won't finish the race.
Tom Malloy has a 1935 Indy Ford in his Museum (Corona, California). I wonder if it has those cast headers?
For many years, a steel tube Sandy Belond copy of that header has been available from Speedway, and more recently made by Patriot/Pertronix. These are well made, although may require some clean up on the welds inside. They're popular with many engine builders and are one of the best flathead headers out there, IMO.
Gorgeous cars with an ugly history- In a nutshell, a young Preston Tucker brokered a deal between Henry Ford and Harry Miller to build a FWD indy car using the flathead. Due to an impossible time schedule, the cars were never tested on the track (where they would have found out that the steering box was WAY too close to the header), and all of the cars went out early with steering failure from cooked boxes.
We (Patriot/PerTronix) make the Speedway ones, always have, even back to when Ermie Immerso owned the company
