Despite the threat of rain(which eventually came) there was a pretty good turnout at the Nostalgia Drags at Milan Dragway in Milan,Michigan,USA. We'll dispense with the chit-chat(other than I survived-so far-from the effects of "Botulism-on-a-Bun",i.e. track hot dogs) and go right to film at Eleven. Let's see,how about the car show first: 100_1573.jpg[/IMG] Only certain vehicles rate the term "That's titties!" in my book. This rated that term, cuz it's what I exclaimed as it drove in. Too kewl... Next reply;we'll put on our bibs and hit the pits. -Al
Round Two;or a walk through the pits: This ran 10.70's: A 10.50 car and looked great: Blown small-block,lifted the wheels at least two feet high and carried them twenty feet. Did I mention it ran 10.20's? Appropriate name;ran 9's: Beyond an "E" ticket: Another 10 sec. car-there were a bunch that ran 9's and 10's here. This sounded SO-O-O-O good;ran like it sounded,in the low 10's: 500 in. BBC took this into the 10's as well: Just plain radical, ran low 11's: Love the name on this one: Very few Mopars;of course I dug this one. Ran 9.50's. I drooled. Some random shots: Next: LET'S GO RACING!
Round Three;some racing shots. I took a lot,but I'll try to just show the best. It's been a while since I did any motion photography,so don't bust my balls, please. Shall we begin? I had to split earlier than wanted to,but the rain was persistent enough to probably postpone the proceedings. Won't be able to get back tomorrow,if they run;hopefully someone else will get some shots.
thanks for the pics..many of these guys run in our nostalgia program in Ontario.. Even captured proenfo Hamber walkin around Rick 1939
================================================ I'm thinking we will pass on Ubly next year and do this event.. 1939fiat Rick
The more the merrier! I think the weather kept a few folks away, but still a good turnout under the circumstances.
very good pics and good photography!! WHY O WHY CAN'T THEY HAVE AN EVENT LIKE THIS IN MY NECK OF THE WOODS?
Uh,no;sad to say. Some late model, very O/T stuff, one guy had a 409 block and assorted stuff for it in the back of his truck, some old pickup looking thing on a trailer in pieces-very rough-and a couple of cars: A nice '64 Sprint;78 Benjamins get's it to your garage: These were available in the pits;damn near grabbed them for myself, except I've got nuttin' to put them on. I'm working on that...anybody want a '99 Harley and a '76 Arctic Cat racing snowmobile? Had deals for those gone through, there might be a B-body in my garage, and these might have been on the back: A bit small for a swap;was hoping to maybe find some old reading material to replace lost stuff, and maybe some old Mopar stuff. Didn't happen.
Awesome event, had a blast!!! The 55 that did the incredible wheelies is Tom,We celebrated his 65th birthday at the track. There were some incredible cars there and even more incredible people there. Tell management,WE WANT MORE OF THESE. Johnny Rotten
Thanks for posting the "cool" pics. I should have went there instead of walking in the mud at the James Dean and Ducktail shows. Hopefully the Milan drags will happen again next year.
milan too cool thanks too bad about the weather mich. is such a cool area we had a blast at bir ssfr this year lotsa nostalgia been drug out a couple whiners but still good time
Yehhh that white poncho was over the top,way cool........ Lotsa guys there from north of the border.....a great bunch of racers.
Damn, what a good lookin bunch of cars! can you guys get on down to MoKan? that Tempest and Barracuda do it for me...
This was a really good event! Several of us guys that race with the Team Canada Gassers and the Ontario Nostalgia Drag Racers made the trip. I've got a few pictures to add... Johnny Rotten's Chevy II was outstanding, I made a point of pulling my 55 Chevy up behind it for a picture. Here's some more pictures of Johnny's car at the fuel pumps with a cool 60 Impala and another 55 Chevy from Canada.
Here's some more pictures... Nice truck. This Chevy II had a "real fine" 409 W motor. It ran high nines and lifted the wheels in first and second gear. Here's a Graffiti style coupe. The Legendary James Boys, also from Canada. Some may have seen this Jeff Norwell artwork featuring that car. A cool 57. I was lined up beside the Dragon Slayer in the first round and I felt like I was standing still as he rocketed past me on the way to a 7.32 second pass. Here's another car that came down from Canada. I wish I had taken more pictures but I had a great time, met a lot of nice people and I'm already looking forward to next year.
Nice photos and looked like a great event, glad to see Fernando up and going after his miss-hap here at Lancaster
whats the deal you guys going 1/4 mile 1/8 or both ? nova run 9s ford 7s ....9 in a 1/8 is a snail ..
Isn't that because you guys like to turn left.....hehehe...looks like it was alot of fun, sombody remind me next year around march so I can fit it into the plans....!
Jimss409;thanks for adding more pics to this thread. I had to leave early,so I missed a couple of those. A good time and hopefully we'll see it again next year. cooljunk;saw yours as well. Great shots;I should have tried to gain access to the staging and burnout area myself. Probably would have ended up with duplicate pics.
