Checker trivia: From 1933-1937, Checker was owned by the Cord Corporation, manufacturers of the Auburn, Cord, and Duesenberg cars.

I think Mr Cord owned the Checker Corp for a few years, but it wasn't really related to the Cord Corporation? The owners of both companies knew each other....

Anyways, back to Corvettes, I put the old Heathkit scope that Russ brought me, on the Corvette. Looks like the distributor wobbles a little, but it's sparking OK.

    Jim,
Does it tell you if the sparks are happening an equal distance apart of 45 degrees? Tells you if the lobes are worn unevenly. Which would then have an effect on spark timing in each cylinder to be different. Just a thought.

The video shows the superimposed image of all the cylinders, and you can see it wobbling back and forth a little. I expect there is a little bit of timing difference.

I still have to play with it more to get the "parade" pattern working right...

Does it have a raster pattern setting as well? ( wave forms stacked)

no, it's not that fancy. The Sun scope I had years ago did, but it also had a big TV picture tube, not a little 5" round CRT.

Mine was huge, but it also quit working, and I'm not very good at fixing 1970s TVs, unfortunately.

I can't believe it. Something built in the 20th century that Squirrel can't fix.

You can get electronic oscilloscopes pretty cheap these days, just plug on to a USB port on a computer notebook. Wonder how good something like this is:

I saved my scope from my shop in town when I closed it. It is a more modern brand that will do up to 8 coil on plug ignition systems, not that big of a piece of equipment. It's in storage for now.
