In my never ending quest of finding old custom car photos I stumbled across a collection of photos taken at Californian car shows, out door gatherings, drag races and some photo shoots.
The photos appear to be taken by a gentleman named Jim Roten. His on-line photo collection was open for the public, but I have not been able to cantact the owner to see if I could "borrow" his collection for my own site.
However since it was a public album I feel I can share them here on the hamb, so that wel all can enjoy them instead of them hiding away in a rarely discovered on-line photo album...

A selection of the Hot Rods, Customs and drag race photos of the Jim Roten collection.

Wonderful mild 51 Mercury... but what is really intersting is the Harry Westergard built Buster Rugard's 1946 Chevy next to it...

Thats sure looks like one of the first home built double cabin pick-ups next to this roadster...

Interesting 31 Roadster.. and again with the Rugards Chevy in the background

Gene Winfield Mercury... but what is the girl doing in the car???

Extreme rounded corners on this Shoebox...

Well since some of the first posted image links do not work no more.. I guess its easier to place a link here to the whole album on my site.

Thanks for the memories. I recognize a lot of them from my little pages magazines. My favorites are the bronze and green flamed deuce that was a cover car and the Zupan Merc which to me epitomized the perfect treatment for a 49-51 Merc molded grille and perfectly placed scallop accents.

    A few more....

I think this is the guy – Jim Roten – and his own custom who took all the photos

I think some of these have some color added to the black and white photo...
Not sure if it was done by hand, or if it was a chemical process.
