Ongias was absolutely one of the best natural drivers ever. I'll never forget his wreck in the Interscope car at the Indy 500.

That is the same car that hit another and knocked it up on the rail at Dallas.

    Thanx for the porn.

  10. Makes modern funny car racing look a little mundane. 1500 hp eh? Doesn't seem like much compared to todays 7000 hp FCs, but I could watch those 7 second guardrail to guardrail passes all day and be itching for more. Todays 4 second cookie cutter FCs kinda make me yawn, no wonder they can't fill the stands.

Saw that car race at Lions (maybe more than once). The combination of Ongais and Thompson was hard to beat in '69. Awesome; thanks for posting the link.

If you are referring to the crash at the 69 NHRA Spring Nationals at DIMS that killed Gerry Schwartz that is not the same car but was the sister car that was driven by Pat Foster. Foster built both the red car that he (Pat)drove and the blue car that was driven by Ongais. Ongais certainly had more success with the blue car than Foster had with the red car. The red car always seemed to be plagued with problems.

Classic! Thanks for posting. I think the era mid 60's to late 70's was the greatest time for drag racing. I have no interest in big time drag racing now. All the pro cars, weather dragsters, FC or pro stock (if they are still called that) look the same. I do attend the local 1/8 mile drags a few times in the summer.
