is that how it was done?..I was looking at one for sale the other day and there was a seam there in the qtr. panel. another guy that looked at it said it was a converted 4D, I didn't think so, but I thought you would have to fill that seam for it to look right. I don't think I've ever seen one with that particular piece of chrome like the car pictured. its pretty neat looking...sharp lookin car...the car I looked at didn't have that sidechrome...

  21. Those are not "converted factory" four doors. They are built that way intentionally. Saved stamping and tooling costs.

Looked at it for quite a while at Billetproof today. First one I have ever seen. Owned a 55 Coupe a number of years ago, but never knew about those two door conversions.....looks like a great daily driver, Lauren....good luck with the RPU, hope to see more updates on that one soon...

Looks like you guys had a blast, seems like it would be kind of a white knuckled ride with a car that had sat for some time and didn't even run at the beginning of the adventure. For the record that car is heavier than it looks, I've never been so out of breath at a car show! Johnny A

i took my friend Mark along with me and had about 5 days to get my Studebaker that had been sitting for over 20 years running and road-ready. we did what we could and what was needed in that time frame and were able to make it.

we did break down a few times along the way and when we stopped to get gas, i would have to run inside to pay - while not turning the car off - pump the gas and then go. no extra stops for food or bathroom breaks...

  29. Wow! that takes a lot of uh - intestinal fortitude, and is a great inspiration for wifey & I to do the same thing next year with the '56 Vicky. We've traveled that route many many times (we live in Michigan, daughter in Vancouver) and know the roads quite well. Good for you! Despite the problems, it looks like you had a good time. And it's really good to see these old classics doing what they were made to do - TRAVEL! Hope you took side trip off the interstate & stopped at Radiator Springs. . . .:)
