It seems like things come in groups to our shop, 40 fords, 57's or 32's. This week it is Mercurys. Just a cool photo I thought I would share.
Lost of Fomoco there. 2 Mercs and a Rachero, nice! Snap a few more of the red one in full. Its sweet!
What's up with Ron's car. In person those flames are very rich in color....the internet makes them look plain.
If thats the car I think it is, and if I remember right, it was a late '50s Mopar Grille that I cut the markerlights off, and made new ends for...
yes alex, that is the same car. I do not know why the color does not pop, must be the lights in the shop. The red car is in for some trans issues, and the black car was in for some alignment issues. Look for the red car in one of the mags in the next few months... it also gets a shot in the gazette EVERY time it goes to a goodguys show. Look in the Del Mar coverage.
That's funny... Terry and I were just talking about that grille the other day. He said it was a 54 or 55 Chrysler. We were looking at the picture in Goodguys' Gazette and he was telling me the story of how it was aquired and how Alex made those end pieces. I guess things in Phoenix come in groups. That's a cool Pic Gregg, ya should've shut the lights out and turned on the Cocktails sign... That'd been neat I think.
Yes Alex that is the car. I salvaged that grille out of a 54 Imperial that was on it's way to the crusher, and metalshapes made it fit which required tricky curved end caps.
The Arizona guys who know that car will also note the flathead. It now has a small block Chevy. The owner before Ron had that car chopped by somebody here in Phoenix. They screwed it up so bad, the top had to be recut and a 50 back glass in place of the un-salvagable 51 window. There is a long story with that car of additional screwings the guy took. He just couldn't seem to get a break. By the time he made it to my shop, he was totally wore out. We did our best to save it, and did a pretty good job as evidenced by the work on the grille. We rebuilt the hydraulics, and the carbs, and actually got it running pretty good. Then it went to a body shop for paint, and he did a bunch of sandblasting. Apparently he got more sand in the carbs and gas tank than he got on the rest of the car, because when we got it back it didn't run at all, and everything was full of sand. We had to start all over.
Wow, you got me on that one. The only thing I remember taking was the grille. It seems Watske pulled in with it on the roll back and said to get what we wanted, but I only remember the grille being the only thing exciting. But I don't remember a lot of things!
yes, our shop has pulled both flatheads and installed sbc/700r4 combos. Also both cars now have jamco suspensions, and a power steering kit our shop developed for jamco. Ill try to get more shots of them today.
Really cool cars. MS, friggin great job on that unique grille. Never would have thought of that, and it looks really at home in the Mercury cavity.
The red one was in a Mag for the Jamco Isuzu box install no? The black one has the accessory light kit on the front. Nice! Did either cars (assuming both have PS) use the stock wheel and column?
yes, both cars were used in the article. the red car has a stock sized wheel, but neither has a stock column. a shot of Metalshapes' bar ends. the black car has a small modern wheel. It was a restored, stocker, which the owner never drove. Since the redo, he has 10,000 in two years. the isuzu box
