I'm back with another question. What do you guys use as gaskets between the taillight and the body? Mine are disintegrated and I need to make the rear waterproof. BTW made some progress in the shop today, there were some strange things going on in the tranny as gear was stuck and I couldn't make it shift at all. Well, when I got the tranny out of the car I found out the modulator wasn't attached to the gear lever at all..... Now I'm waiting for a new dip stick tube and then it maybe is time for a test drive..

I don't intend to hurt any feelings but those modern Pro Stock scoops sure looks bad on such a beatiful car imho.

    Can the c-post trim from a 63 1/2 fit on a 64?

and speaking of the prevoius post,?????????????

  11. The 2 door "fastback" roof are all the same 63 1/2 and 64 even between Ford and Merc ( except for the 4 door in 64 but they interchange among themselves too) but the sedans and breezeway hardtop trim is totally different so beware!

Thanks. I was asked to sell my spares from a 63 1/2 HT to a guy who misses them for his 64 but I don't want to fool him. Now I know, thanks to you, again.
PS There were mounting holes for my rear view mirror on the fender.

    DESCRIPTION

The Minnesota couple who first owned this 1964 Mercury Montclair had an ongoing deal when it came to buying a car: the make and model was up to the husband, and his beloved wife had the choice of color. In this case, the two combined to order a unique machine with a decidedly dual nature, for beneath its subtle Glacier Blue finish is one of the fiercest powerplants of the era, Ford’s R-code “medium riser” 427/425 HP engine, equipped with rare “Perma-Tuned” transistorized ignition and mated to a T-10 Toploader 4-speed transmission. This low-mileage car is very original with the exception of a single repaint of extraordinary quality. Purchased by Paul Dehnert in 2006 and expertly maintained, it is in excellent condition and comes with the original window sticker, owners manual, owners card, ID card, and receipt from Murray Motors for the dealer installed Rotunda tachometer.

That car is drop dead gorgeous! Thanks for posting the pics! I'm a MoPar guy but the early 60:s was really a fantastic time in Detroit in general. No plastic parts to speak of, not much government interference, just pure Detroit steel created with endless enthusiasm and talent. Someone wanna start that 427?

Sadly I did sell the Convertible. I have found myself hip deep into restoring an actual Mercury drag car. So I am selling a lot of my procects off to help.

LOVE the steelies and dogdish as well. Sorry to say I'm a hubcap short, need to put up a picture and try to buy one. And I like the fat wide tires as well, any good input of whats the max wide you can get in there? Mine has 215-75-14 radials but I'd like to go wider. kinda stockcar racing look.
