Anyone out there running a stock mercury flathead still on 6v and the original loadomatic distributor with a rochester 2g? I am wondering about the vacuum for the distributor, if anything needs changing or run vacuum as you would to the original Holley?

You can't run manifold vacuum to the dizzy, only ported vacuum from the carb can be used. If you run a non oiginal carb you have to change your distributor to a full centrifugal advance type.

  3. Unless you're really a stickler for originality, ditch that original distributor and get a new one from Bubba. Best $150 I've ever spent.

Um, the Rochester 2G indicates he is well beyond originality.

Back to the original question: The 2G and the load-a-matic are not compatible. You need either a full mechanical advance or a manifold vacuum distributor.

I had a 50 merc in the 80s --bolted on a rochester backward --it ran without any problems , even stock linkage worked

  6. Gee I guess the 6 volt, stock flathead thing threw me off. You're right. It's a total race car now.

It will start and run with no advance to the distributor. Power and gas mileage will be lousy but it will be smooth.
