Hot Rods "Mean Green", A friendship and a truck built around a steering wheel.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Rustahaulic, Aug 5, 2014.

  1. I like chomes too, ut they are $80 more or a piece then the black ones...
Also there is no CHROME except the center of the steering wheel oddly enough...

Maybe I'm going the wrong way with wheels?

  3. I feel ya Gary...It was quite an ordeal to aquire...
Even If I sell this truck the steering wheel will NOT be going with it..
I'll throw in a Grant wheel from Autozone or maybe the Wood Van wheel from the coat rack.

My hopes are that someone on the HAMB will know who made it, because I have had ZERO luck in figuring out thus far...

I took it to a few swap meets hoping someone would know who made it and it just caused more problems them it was worth...
300 "Hell no it's not FOR SALES" get old
I believe I outta put a quick disconnect hub on the column so it doesnt get stolen even if the truck does.;)

  4. What did you have in mind for tires?

If the chrome is out... maybe buy the black rims and paint them a contrasting color to the body and/or add a trim ring to draw the focus

My Ford is a beater in cheap gray primer, I painted my vintiques a darker Toyota metallic green to draw the attention away from the farmer welds and roached cab corners. It is amazing what the right wheels do for a beater.

    How about something like this

  5. Something in wide white, probably port-a-walls, green fenders, black wheels, chrome spyder bullet centers and bullet lugs...

I'd go with plain old steel wheels painted body color. baby moon caps, or just spider caps.

This might not help, but if you could find the chrome ones in painted. That would be nice.

Nice truck and beautiful steering wheel.

Wheels painted green heavy metallic, 2 tone black cab dark green fenders. Wide whites definately. Just my thoughts. I like the story, think back to how you met some of your long time friends, it's usually a random tale.

It's a Grant wheel, about 1967 vintage. They were made with and without finger grips. Pretty cool!

  11. Bowie,, Thanks! It's been forever that I've been trying to find this out...Mine has the "finger grips"...
Found a few Grant wheels in a couple searches but nothing like mine, nice to see they attempt a reproduction of some kind...

  13. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say it was an old solid-spoke wheel and someone milled those lines out. Very cool either way.

Rustahaulic: Your welcome! The darker green on on the left looks like the repo of another of Grants original styles. The one on the right is a real early version. I have a black one and a wood rim one identical to yours. There never were to many of the 2slots around these parts. Have fun...haul ass!

Been a long while since Ive been able to paruse the HAMB. Missed it very much...
Unfortunately I've had some events in my life take me out of the Hotrod and Rust Rescue game...
It pleases me greatly to see this forum thrive...
Even if Gods willing it's going to take some time for me to regain my life...
As soon as I do I will be back at it 110% searching this land far and wide for the next Rustahaulic Rust Rescue...

The visor was a New Aftermarket from back in the day, little too much flex for me, at 80-90mph it starts doing a death wobble, I'm afraid its gonna fold over and reek havoc on my candy flake top...so, we've built a brace for center..if it folds the visor now it'll have to be over a 100+mph and it should keep it off the painted top...

    Few things left to do.

    Change rear end
    (10.5 GM moser axles,
    w Eaton 4:11 gear n carrier)

    and reconfigure
    a new 4 link system.

Still on the fence bout what to do bout bumpers.

Recover old ford split back seat to match...

Finish exhaust all way to back once 4 link is done.
