I’m replacing the head gaskets on a 1936 flathead. The dipstick had chocolate milk on it so I knew that was an issue.

The gaskets coming off are McCord 5842b’s.

I ordered a 21 stud gasket kit from Ecklers prior to tearing it down so that it would get here at about the right time. Do you think there may be any fitment issues? Also, would you coat these Ecklers with anything going back on? Cast iron heads.

If anyone was an SCTA / Bonneville fan, this was owned by Warren Bullis before I bought it.

I have sprayed copper coat on copper gaskets as well as composite like Best brand. Both sealed up just fine. I think making sure your deck and heads are absolutely clean, as well as flat, is the key.
