Any more details on that swoopy yellow rig that looked like it ought to have some Moon Equipment logos? Was that a camper, a car trailer, ... or what?

Would love to know more about that tractor/trailer!

  2. Doug, your pictures are outstanding quality as they always are, but the most important one is missing. That would be one of you, since you have been such a part of all this drag racing history.:D Thank You for sharing so much with us all.

Uninspired, huh...great photography, thanks for posting...

  9. Wow, its hard to find something that hasn't already been said. Amazing eye for detail, Doug.
    Thank you very much.

  10. That I doubt. Doug is a former professional photographer. I've seen his camera equipment! The camera is only part of it. It takes an eye like Doug's to get the shots that tell a story.

  11. Yes ... that is HAMBer @rich roberts's 1941 GMC COE (& custom built trailer) ... it replaced the '48 GMC COE ramp truck that he used to haul his '34 Willys A/GAS drag car.

There were a bunch of pics & some info about Rich's rig in the "can we start a COE picture thread?" thread ... but the Mods deleted most of those posts for being "Off Topic" (i.e., not HAMB-friendly) ... but they did leave this post from Rich:

Official pilot of the STONE T AA/FA, one of the baddest of all altereds, be it injected or blown. Yoshiyoka also drove the Tri-Form RED top fueler.

I've been going to the CHRR since 2002 and this years event was great...but Rich Roberts had to sell his speedy 34 Willys a/gas car because that class and several others were excluded from the March Meet and CHRR this year. I thought the gassers were an important part of the event and Rich had just got that Willys dialed in a running really fast. If you read his posts here he's been pretty vocal about it, must be really frustrating.

Here's Rich deep in the sixes in 09
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpImSrJT5kY
vs Gary Reinero's 48 Austin (more here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaFGAQg36jU)
These cars were an important part of nostalgia racing but seem to have got squeezed out by the huge funny car field....

Rich had his new 30's Chevy bodied race car at the event - no engine in it - I'm assuming he's going to run in 7.0, didn't see him there but had a good look at that amazing hauler, he's an amazing craftsman

It was fun seeing you there again, Doug. Your photos allow me to actually stop and study this stuff, instead of attempting to digest it all in one fell swoop while walking around the famous Famoso dragstrip....:)

Awesome photography! The detail is amazing. I too love to study the form, fit, and function of these early machines. Simple yet elegant engineering. Thank you for sharing this with all of us that could not be there.
