I have a lead on a 348. A friend rebuilt the engine and during start up coolant was leaking into the pan. He thinks the heads may have been shaved too much and the intake now needs to be machined to match. Is that common with this engine? Also, what about parts sources? Is anyone casting 6 carb intakes for these? Engine would replace the SBC with 8 stack Enderle in my 29.
http://www.vintagespeed.com/ and http://www.show-cars.com/ both sell the 4X2 and the 6X2 Intake SetUps Offenhauser sells the Intake manifolds this is a good source, too http://www.bruneauperformance.ca/
Where did you see that. Can´t find any info on the edelbrock web site I know that BWR makes Aluminum heads You can find them on ebay.
I might be off track and I'm no Mk II expert but have been around them a little, my parents car when I got my license was a '60 Impala with a 348/250HP and I had a 409/340 HP back in the late 70's. The Mk II's have no combustion chamber in the head, it's all in the cylinder and piston top so why would they shave a set of Mk II heads that much unless they were REALLY warped ? I suspect it has other issues. Friend or no friend unless it is CHEAP I'd pass.
Check the "New for 2008" link on the Edelbrock site to see the new heads (and other parts). Took me a long time for the PDF to come up though.
hey just something to check I belive those heads originally had pinned rocker studs the original studs went in to the water jacket if your buddy had screw in studs installed alot of machine shops dont know they have to be thread sealed and also the pin holes have to be filled with sealer
