hey all....master cylinder is leaking...and i need to remove it.
its a frame mounted unit, non power on a 50 olds 88 4 door.

i got the two frame bolts, as well as lines and switch...
running into trouble getting it disconnected from the rod/pedal assembly.

does the WHOLE pedal assembly need to come out? i see a stop bolt on the rod, but not sure how to unbolt it from the pedal....

any help or insight would be apppreciated....

had the same problem - been a while
soak the pedal area with a liquid wrench type product
then work it and spray it again
there may be a clip but ???? can't remember

  3. First step, Motor Manual: "disconnect the pushrod from the brake pedal"

There are only two more steps...brake line and cylinder securing bolts.

    Cosmo

P.S. On most manual brake cylinders, the pushrod will NOT come out of the master.

k thanks. the pin holding the rod to the pedal assembly wasnt coming out....at least not easily. the cotter pin or whatever was on the back end was worn way down and there was no way i could get to it. ended up pulling the whole assembly off,,,,which im sure was way worse than any other way,,,now that its off tho i can get to the cotter and pin and make sure its easier to take apart...if there is ever a next time,,,

anyone have any experience rebuilding these? i ordered a rebuilt kit from fusick....as mine was leaking from the boot where the pushrod goes in...

    thanks for the help hambers!

I have rebuilt many a master cylinder and wheel cylinder not difficult. Just check bore size carefully after honing out all visible pits. Oversize pistons and cups used to be available not sure if anyone still offers them.
