    The Story

There is this 55 Chevy named Master Blaster. It has history as an old race car in the Austin, TX area in the late 60's and early 70's

It remained in the family that birthed it till around the end of 2010. At that point Graham picked it up from the builder/drivers widow.
He kept the 427 Big block and then traded it to my friend Luke..

Here is Grahams discovery thread: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=504139

Luke found a lot of good parts for it...: 327, offy Turbo-Thrust manifold, chrome Pontiac rear end, Hurst Vertigate shifter. Wheels and tires and a few little nick nacks
The motor got set back about 10 inches, Luke also made some awesome zoomie pipes for it. Helping with the car I really started to fall in love with it.

Then one day grabbing a bite we discussed a trade. Then I became the fortunate new owner!

About 4 months later and a very busy schedule I FINALLY have some time to put into it.

    ...............................................................

Here is pics of it where it hid until its discovery:

I plan on documenting this build, I hope you enjoy it.

Here are some pics of where I currently am at. I plan on redoing the front frame stub since the tubing is way to thin for comfort and nothing is straight. So first order of business is removing the engine and trans and placing a metal order..

Whoa that's exciting Kail! What a great find and its nice to know it's in good hands. Are you keeping the cragars on there because it really looks good with them on.

Kinda sad to see the Micky Mouse (Cow whatever that was) go but I can get over it ;)

Yes, Luke got these at a swap meet and they are awesome, the cheaters in the back are not in the best of shape so I will probably contact Hurst for a new set.

Graham wasn't to fond of Mickey, I can take it or leave it, but it added to the quarkyness off the car.

The paint will remain as is for some time, my main focus right now is wheelies..

My wife is due at the end of March, so this year is outta the question.
    Good Luck!

With all the crazyness of F1 in Austin and my back going out last weekend I am falling behind..

But i managed to put a few hours in yesterday and make my front frame section.

I will round off the front later.

In the other pics you will notice the wonky steering and the cockeyed front axle.

From what ive seen on most of the old gasser threads its commin practice to redo the front straight axle. Im really considering sorting mine out, havnt ran it yet but dont look like it will handle well!

Is the front axle cockeyed or was it staggered on purpose to trick the timing lights. I was told that was a common trick to fake the lights.

That would be a much better subject for a build on Outlaw Garage than that F1 thing IMO.See if you can document that build.

Yeah it was staggered on purpose but that whole tricking the lights thing never made sense to me..

Way it was explained to me is the timer starts when the front tires exit the beam and stops when they enter the beam on the far end of the track. So by staggering the front axle you trick it thinking you are leaving later and arriving earlier.

Front wheel stagger is to give the car additional rollout before the start line beams detect that the car has moved. Torque has a tendency to lift the left wheel first, so it is the leading wheel. The finish line isn't really in the equation.
