  1. Nice job. Hey OneTruth, what brand & size are your tires? It would be nice to know cause some brands have a lot less white rubber underneath.

I cheated and had a tire shop shave mine with a machine same concept but machine keeps grinding die in a fixed position so it grinds a even depth around the tire and makes a really straight line,I just felt it was safer and cleaner then doing it with a grinder:

Grinding white walls is a time honored tradition. Back in the day many of the tire stores had a machine that would do this job. Every once in a while I see one for sale.

I hand ground mine - werent wide enough for me so I smoothed 'em out and painted them . Tried the Fusion paint and didnt like it , tried some others but I'm sticking with Kilz stain blocking primer in spraybomb - in fact I just got back from wallyworld to pick up another can !

Painted mine... front and rear tires dont match.. so I had to make them way wider than I wanted. I have some thin white wall tires that are good. I wanna get it driving good before I worry about all the fancy stuff though.

the white letter tires have the white out farther then most white walls problem is getting a nice edge on the out side..white walls you just go to the line and stop.I played around with this and very interested in working with it some more..seems alot of the aftermarket www have a short wear life and for the cost a set of grinds will out last and cost less then half.

With these posts urs could stand for the "usual Ratty stuff" Ron

  24. A variable speed grinder on a fairly low speed worked best for me. I used 80 grit then finished off with some 120.

well i decided to try out my new HF Grinder....

was kind of sloppy with it at first then I got the hang of it. Not bad for my first time using a grinder. Luckily these tires have to be replaced anyways, so it doesn't really matter

  27. Most tires the white goes to within about 1/2" of the wheel.
I like to do them off the wheel to get a straight inside edge.

  28. I tried different paints including stitts airplane fabric paint. It was more flexible than latex, but when i let the pressure down to 30 the tire flexed and the paint cracked. I parked near a used car lot and the guys mistook my cracked white paint for a 60 year old tire. So even if the sidewalls don't look cherry, there are benefits... I just left the cracks.

I ground mine out a little. I only went in towards the rim.
