  6. Far too much "gingerbread" on a lot of nowaday Lows. These were our daily cars back then, so they were a lot simpler. Now, it seems like a contest of who can throw the most bling at their cars. Shitloads of un-necessary chrome under the hood/under the car/far too much elaborate engraving and murals. Just way too much stuff. I like em cleaner/simpler than that. And what ever happened to white diamond tuck interiors? The multi colored Circus like interiors that are done today are just terrible in my opinion. But, it's just my opinion and don't expect anyone to agree. But, the current trend in interiors is just not cool. Just 'cause it's expensive, don't make it tasty

  10. BTW, I LOVE the cars that are built by Starlite Customs in Torrence. Those guys got CLASS!

    I couldn't agree more, Groucho. Where some of the cars have now "progressed" to, they are hard on the eyes....
    Less is more...:)

    I went through and read some the post in here and I don't think I was suppose to post these pics in here. My appologizes fellows. The paint on all your alls rides is just crazy awesome. Makes me want get back into painting again and hone some new skills. Thanks Gents, Scott

    hey wow thanks for those pics. I do remember those old shows we started going to the sterling rock falls show out there and man that was cool the simple days. I remember that convertable buick was a hardtop at one time and customized the owners name was chops or that is what we knew him as. There were only a couple of lowrider shops back then M AND R house of hydraulics, drop it hydraulics, and i believe porky's also in chicago. We ran right to the bank installing that stuff,but man it changed really fast. Air bags? What come on!!!! Knuck from indiana.

    I agree and plan to put a white interior in my 66 Ventura. Plan is white interior, a colorbar and organ pipes.
     
  20. Yes sir, Knuck! You WERE there. I have a couple of photo's of Robert "Chops" Herrera's '72 Skylark before it was customized. It was a burnt orange hardtop that was striped by me and had basket wires! I will find those and post in the near future.

    Later, Chops was the very first to go all out with customizing his ride with paint, chrome, interior and do it frame off. Then he also chopped the windshield after he ran it with the roof off for a year or so. I haven't seen him since 1986 or '87. I missed the big blow up of Lowriding in Chicago and it's growth of shops in the '90's after I started working on the railroad. Too much time away from the action.

    I gotta tell ya, Knuck, the ride Chops had before the Skylark was his daily. A juiced '66 Buick LaSabre 2dr Hardtop, in gray primer with Astro Supreme's & 5:20's. That was very cool...

    Here's a pic of Chops "Puro Oro" '72 Skylark at the Chicago 1983 WoW before the windshield chop. Thanks for stirring my cobwebs...:D

    hey joel wow that pictures brings memories!!!!! I remember there was a olds 442 that was choped like that also i think i saw it in a picture you posted a while back but at the time the pics were taken the top was still on. That guy i remember what he looked like but i just cannot remember his name for the life of me. There was also a blue candy 72 impala back then and that car had a vato lowrider dude that was airbrushed on the trunk lid. I will have to look for the pictures. Do you remember a 76 caprice that was called penthouse the truck in the rear was cut in half vertical and the sides would open up in the middle.the car was painted candy wine and it was just badass . If i remember that guys name was pete mexican guy very nice dude we would talk at car shows for hours. Chops i heard had got in a little trouble with the law but thats another story. That puro oro did it not have tru-ray's??? Knuck from indiana.
