So I have read a few threads on guys adding or removing leaf spring blocks to lower their mercs, and i decided to give her a shot. Now, I don't have a lot of experience since this truly is my first project car, but when I added a 3" block to the existing 3" block, the new u-bolts are only about 2" off the floor . Does it always end up that way or am I missing something? It seams way to low. I don't want to hit a pothole and tear my shock or springs off. Any

Get a flat tire and you're scraping the road. Nothing should be lower than the bottom of the wheel.

Adding a 3" block to a 3" block is too much. You want to keep the car drivable. My younger brother got hung up on a sidewalk curb and was frying the tires to get away with his real low 50 merc when the cops showed up, it wasn't good. I used a 3" inch block and removed 2 leafs from the spring on my 49 and I kiss the ground too often.

I've gotten a lot of good input from other guys on here for my own Merc. ... 3 inch block in the back.....aerostar coils in the front.....gives a great low stance but still drivable. I have the stuff to do mine...just gotta find the time.

Yea, tons of good stuff. I plan on putting the springs in as well, i just think the shock and u-bolts seam to low. Do I go back to the original 3" block and save for airride?

Car looks great! How much of a chop is there? Really looks nice

  7. More than 3" and you are asking for problems, the drive line angle is gonna be out also

ok, so obviously I'm not sure what came stock. I just bought her and already had a 3" block on her. What I seam to be gathering is stay at that? Because I love the way it looks, just doesn't seam to be safe

3 inch block is not stock. .... and it is safe to drive... drive line angles are fine at that level. As for air ride...why not use blocks and coils up font? Unless you are trying to lay it on the ground.

Thanks for all the info! I will go back to the 3" and will do coils in front. Air ride is in the future though....
