Yeah Jim,Thats the Castranovo Bros. Willys out of Utica.Of course they went on to success in Funny Car.
Those shots with big crowds, blue skies just make me happy I was there.Great times.
$349,000 is the price,or there abouts. Some lawyers own it now.
If I had the $ would buy it.Make a great cruise in,swap meet location.

Hi... I just stumbled onto this thread. My friend Jim Fehl, Lenny Moore, and Gary Woods (Ton A Fun) used to race at the SGF track. I was to young to get on the track (born in 1968) Check out a picture of Jim and Gary.

Who is selling it? How many acres? With Lamplighter trailer park boarding most of the track... it more then likely would not be able to be used as a track again. Plus, with NY state, Saratoga County.... either other road blocks. If only it could. I know the original owned of the track Allie Swears. Cool old guy that knows a lot.

Here is the link to the video, it has an awful lot of info besides pictures, so pause it to read the story lines, if you please, Jim. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQtDBRtHYok

I went there a few times. Seem to remember a pollution problem with oil containing PCBs (GE Co.) being used on the dirt road, to keep dust down. Anybody recall that? What year did it close?

The PCB / Oil problem was happenning on many dirt roads in the surrounding area during the time GE was "getting rid" of the used oil. In other places they actually have dug up and burned the earth and remade "good dirt" an then put it back. Many places have been or are in the plan to be "cleaned"... Not sure if it'll work etc.

Wow, I never thought I'd see that coupe again after 40 years. Castronovo family out of Utica. I ran against it with an Olds powered stude coupe and got my doors blown off-----Three times.

    TRhansk for the pic.

I don't know of any video. I wish there was more information and photos of the days back then.

I know Ally Swears (my neighbor) was the original owner one of the original operators. I believe the last few years the track was ran by the late Monty Legg (step father of Chip Carta - a friend of mine)
