I have had the 57 for a few days now and I am still unsure which way I want to go.. I am looking for pictures to get ideas on mild customs (no chop tops) and gasser looking 57 chevys.. really leaning towards a bellflower/ watson styled look. probably would use a 57 buick grill with a flaked or pattened roof, modified side trim and really low. really would like to see pic of one with astro's... (I like the early lowrider/ bellflower/ watson styles and think in the long run I can build a better driving car going this route then the nose high look I have now (but right now it is so fun banging gears and hearing the roar of the fenderwell headers. what do you have in your files... thanks,
Think chrome reverses or Radir's with wide whites (cheaters in the back)- down REALLY low, Watson paint. That's class! Buick wires if you really want to stand out.
A few more oldies... from the internet... this very mild 57... I really like the panel paint job on de Olds? next to it. Another mild 57 Chevy. This one is Al " Buster" DeSmedt's car which he bought new in 1957. It was customized by Ray Farner (photo from Bud Ellis "kustoms") Barris built this mild 57 convertible and Jeffries did the panel paint and pinstripes... (sorry for the poor photos) A little less mild 57 Chevy custom.... a car that is still around. But now its sectioned and all "modernized" ugly!!!!!! While this is a nice sample of early 60's customizing...
Ok this is absoluteley not the look I care for... but with a wheel/tire change it could actually look very nice. The canted quad headlights and Buick grille are very nice late 50's early 60's touches.... alll photos from the internet Roof scoop and Mopar taillights also look very much 60's... Perhaps it is an old custom that got the wrong treatment... Far from mild.... but a good look at the Buick grille and nicely filled hood scoops. Lots of body work on this silver scalloped 57...
Here are a few that I borrowed from the internet as well The last one belongs to HAMB member Dukeofbluz Kael
some outstanding examples.. Rikster, thanks, that blue convertible has an interesting side trim, Jason the previous owner was setting the car up to go that route..(so the upper rear qtr trim is shaved already). combine that with the interior in Dave's black one and a buick grill and maybe some rear touches from the silver hardtop.. I am getting some ideas... that is a really nice black street machine/hotrod with the scoop..
Man, that black one has always been one of my favorites and that silver one is just simply beautiful!
You need to change your e-mail now to boones57 since the 53 is gone!..lol Maybe i'll get that striped on the back of my new ride..In Loving Memory of Boones's 53. o-yeah, you got pics by the way...lol
Dirty Rat... maybe when I move and get a new email adress I will switch to another number... I have pic of my ride on my site, follow the link in my signature Just drove it beyond the neighborhood for the first time this afternoon for some lunch.. say 3 cops and thought I was busted by one (open headers right now).. but I lifted the gas pedal and hit the quiet note when they went by....
Sadly it is a famous old mid-west custom that was not given a complete resto- body mods are all old, but the modern stuff blows. We took that pic at the Americruise a couple years ago. The car was once on the cover of R&C. It was apparently damaged on the way to the dealer and customized when new- and continued to be customized for a few years and was a ISCA champion until it was retired for winning multiple years. It was originally blue or purple.
the 57 conv. was earl tuille car from elizabeth n.j. he and a few shops in jersery built it not barris i belive spike,s auto body in union n.j.painted it and i think bunky did the pinstripe it barris had nothing to do with it in the picture you can see his jersery plates i built a 57 chevy conv. {picture of mine is in this thead}because i like earl,s car so much
TeddyP... I know I have seen the light blue convertible somewhere else as well. I tried to find it but no luck so far. Below is a scan of the book I got it from Thats all I knew about it. And a bit clearer shot of the back.... Diferent light blue convertible.... More... Wish I had this in color.... Wild...
Rik, you're absolutely right! I'll see if I can remember which magazine & scan it, but I had this front wiew pic saved...
The faggot that built that billet rod (red one) out of that original kustom '57 should have his ass reamed out by a double barrel sawoff while having his face removed by a fucking mack truck!!!!!!
