I am looking for a cool old or unique dash mounted compass. I remember seeing one on an old Buick at a show when I was just a little crapper. A little round ball in liquid happily bouncing from the East To the West and all points in between. Anyone have one they want to tease and dangle before me, maybe tell where it came from. Thanks.

Check with air craft supply houses.

These were standard issue on most all small air planes.

Hmmm. The metal Hull compass is very cool. I swear that this old compass was round bodied and chrome. It sort of looked like a miniature globe with the compass in the middle like the earth. thanks

You're talking about the Franklin Compass. It was brown plastic bodied. I had one...gorgeous piece. Sold it maybe a year or two ago on account of having NO luck!

I tried to google that, I guess Ben Franklin wrote a book called the moral compass. Was it fake chrome plastic?

I think I remember one that was a "chromed globe" but it had a stanhope Atlas or something like that. Maybe I'm thinking of and actual globe that had a stanhope Atlas?

I have a feeling I am starting an adventure. Oh well, makes the finding that much better.

My grandparents bought a new car every two years, and every one had a dealer-installed compass.

I definitely need one for my '61 Suburban. My wife also wants one for her '61 Corvair wagon. It's amazing how often we refered to the compass on the "data center" on our '01 Dakota and her '93 Concord when we were driving late models.

Not having a compass is a real handicap some times. Especially when you're going old-school GPS with an Atlas.
