Technical Looking for a basic rev limiter

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by bobss396, Aug 15, 2017.

  1. I've been known to miss a shift now and then in my Ford and am considering a rev limiter, something simple. I have no MSD box, just a GM HEI distributor, external round coil and a Sun tach. I have a Ford type solenoid on the firewall if that helps. I appreciate any leads on a good one that doesn't break the bank.

    Thanks!

  3. Thanks Bonzo, would that module fit in my distributor, which is close to this one?

How about the Tach's that have them?

Here's the instructions, modern technology never ceases to amaze me. Something unheard of years ago.

  7. Put a block under your accelerator pedal or stop on the carb. Adjust accordingly.

After my brother discovered the wooden wedge my dad had put up under the carpet, he shortened the throttle rod to the carb the gas pedal went to the floor but the carb never opened all the way. My teenage idiot brother never did figure that one out.
MSD and some others make a stand alone rev limiter that are not real expensive and work with any ignition.

  9. Thanks, I'll take a look at it.

Weak valve springs should do it.

Here is one possible solution, I am running the Ignitor III on my 38 Chevy, set at 5500 RPM, a good safety switch:) because the motor is really starting to run then! And it looks "old" when you look at it.
