$1200 is quite a bit for a bare intake ;)

Forget the dual intake; find a triple. You actually will get a significant power increase, as well as the eye candy. If one doesn't do everything right, possible to LOSE power with the dual intake compared to a single.

  2. Hey John

on your advise when I built my 261 I went with an offey intake with triple zenith carbs . Carbs where off a ford inline originally
Engine pulled great through the rpm range and had great response .
    I agree .

  3. The '56 Moriarity posted has a few nice touches. Shaved handles, Lee lenses, wagon bumper so the tag is off the trunk to make room for that beautiful ridge added to it. Cool.

  4. My plan right now is to lower it ( I dig the black steelies and poverty caps for now )
Move the rear plate to under the bumper
I was thinking of taking the bird off the hood but Moriarity pointed out , the hood is “ made”for the bird

I like the wagon rear bumper idea if I can find one .

Tossing around the idea of single exit lakepipes l
    And just clean and smoooth
    Mild custom

at some point some wheels , not sure chrome reverse , maybe chrome slots I dunno right now .

the interior I was thinking low back buckets with a consol .

but I have seen nice tri-five seats for sale for not stupid money so I’ll be patient this winter and see what pops up .

the nice thing is the streetrodders and restomod guys toss some good stuff that we can use !!

It was a 40's International pickup and he asked what could have created the holes AND possible ways to fix it.

  9. Congrats! Just my thoughts - that car would look tough if you just pop the hub caps off. Maybe when you start working on it, you could show us a pic of that.

If you made the silver white and added a TON of rust, you would have my grandfather's car, bought new in the Chicago suburbs. More door, 6 cylinder, three on the tree. I have many fond memories of him driving, me riding shotgun. No seat belts. Daily use and road salt were harsh to that car. He got a new 1965 Impala and the 56 was kept around as a winter beater to preserve the other car. We used it to pull a tree stump once, got it stuck, and got the tow truck stuck too. Fun times.

It almost became my first car in 1975. It was so rusty by then, the front fenders started 2 inches behind the headlights. The poor car looked bug eyed. At 15, I wanted a car bad, even if it was a bad car. My dad replied with a polite "NO!!!!" to the offer.

THANKS for the rush of memories! Treasure it, you certainly got a nice one there.

  11. The 55’s have always been my favorites, but those 56’s are very rapidly growing on me. That’s a beautiful car. Right now, I’d rather have a more door because it would be easier for Little(?) Truckdoctor to get in the back.

  12. Well , it starts !

pulled the car off the trailer this morning. Took it for a quick boot around the neighbourhood , parked it and delivered the trailer back to u-haul .

when I got home I popped the hood and the generator was smoking !!!!!!

disconnected the battery , it was genny was hot !!!

Thinking of picking up a gm si alternator from work on Monday , what all needs to be done to modify the alternator breaker to get it to fit ?

and yes , I’m going to paint it black so it kinda disappeares into the engine bay

any help would be great !

    [ brak-it ]

A support, as of metal or wood, projecting from a wall or the like to hold or bear the weight of a shelf, part of a cornice, etc.

Sweet car. Glad nobody is ripping it for being a crew cab. Love the six.

What about one of those powermaster alternators that look kinda like generators? I still think they're ugly with the fan on the pulley but a damn sight better than an alternator case.

I think that mounting an alternator to a 235 is just a matter of a couple of spacers on the lower mount pivot bolt so the pulleys line up. Here is an old thread on the subject. one guy bought a kit and further down some other guys flipped the lower bracket and drilled out a hole (I think the gen pivot is 5/16 and alt is 3/8) then used a spacer and it worked

  19. Vandenplas, earlier this year, I put a 10 SI on my 216 with a bracket I bought from eBay. It was $30? And works perfectly.

Here’s a pic worth a thousand words from link Moriarity provided. As he said drill and a spacer is all it takes. Note: That’s an after market bracket in the pic. Stock bracket will net the same result. IMG_3088.jpeg

  21. Perfect

I found a guy selling a duel pulley 10si close to me for $20 bucks. From what info I found last night with the duel pulley you don’t even have to mess around with the bracket , just get a spacer to take up the space .
    I like lazy :D

also need to look at the throttle linkage , seems to hit the flange on the split exhaust .
The joys of old cars !
At least it’s simple stuff to figure out .

BBC for the win. Just ask Squirrel. That 396/t5 combo would really motorvate that very nice 56. Kudos!

this is the next one , if the weather is decent it’s usually a pretty good turn out if vendors . What I like is it’s ( mostly) car stuff , they don’t allow the blanket and leggings and food guys to set up tables . Just car guys and car junk !!

  26. I cut the stock gen bracket to fit the alt. Super EZ and free.
Bent the upper support slightly to work with the alt.

I have a friend that has a solid white 56 4 door hard top, now that i have seen yours that makes the only 2 that i have ever seen. dont let any body talk you into changing the paint scheme, the only thing you need is to add chrome beauty rings to wheels. keep 6 cyl and 3speed.
