Dreddybear, has a very good point, on most old Fords I adjust the door hinge height with the front body mount, they have to be good mounts to start out with, then I make sure the pins/ pin bushings are good or new then start the fight> Good luck!
I went to the volo auto museum today and notice that the 2 other 54's I looked at were very similar. The convertible had a gap almost a half inch wide.
I just wanted to thank everybody who has contributed to this thread. It has been informative. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Hinge pins being shot will definitely bugger the process. That aside, and considering you get em right, that door needs to go up nearly 1/4 and then be "clocked" counter clockwise. By tht I mean looking at it dead on it needs to rotate to the rear. If the pins are just a bit worn you can do a "take up" on the slop in em just for the purposes of getting the roof work done you mentioned earlier. This is done by rolling the hinge base that attaches to the body in the direction needed to remove the misalignment. I see your angst. Need to use the door as a locator for the other stuff, and presumably you'll need to get it off and out of your way again. Sometimes it seems like all these moves are redundant. But when it's all done...
