So a little back story to start with.
I bought my wife her dream car this last August.
Its a 1953 Lincoln Capri with the stock 317 Y Block.
When I got it the original carburator had been replaced with a rochester
and the intake had been hacked up to make it fit.
Long story short found an intake and an original 2140 Holley for it, rebuilt
    and installed it.
I've come to realize that if I was making this my daily driver I could deal with
the Lincoln load-o-matic and all the fun it brings, but since this is for the
wifey I want to make this as bulllet proof as possible.
I've decided to upgrade to the newer ford distributer and oil pump and will
be getting an adapter to put the newer carb on.
The question I have is what carburator should I go with.
I'd like to get a decent mpg, but still have a little get up and go.
    Thanks for any suggestions

Put a modern 4V on it if you want trouble free performance.

    But here's my $.02:

I think the modern 4Vs are ugly on a pretty engine like the Y. Tinkering with the carbs is just part of driving an old car. Don't remove too much of the car's soul to make it "reliable transportation".

Put an AFB on it and make the air cleaner fit if possible. Those were the years
the Lincoln won the Mexican road races I believe.

I have a 52 Lincoln and installed an Edlebrock 1403 -I believe that's the part number. A friend fabbed up an adapter but, we also had to put a window in the "L" shaped linkage bracket to account for the wider carb. The window allowed the rods to move through the bracket and we didn't have to change any of the other original set-up.
We later made the original air cleaner fit. The original air cleaner hides most of the modern carb.
If you need, I can take some pics - my explanation kinda sucks.....

First, I love that Cadillac Bob is rockin a Lincoln.
Second, I was hoping that you'd respond as I 'd seen the ad
    for your car.
    Pictures would be awesome.
    Thanks again.
  6. I found a Stromberg 4 barrel, I think from a Buick, that has the same footprint as the Ford teakettle. A later Ford Y-block distributor with vac and centrifugal advance will fit. You just have to put the Lincoln distributor gear on the Ford distributor. The next step is Pertronix if you want...
