Anyone know if a set of '49 Lincoln bumpers will bolt right in on a shoebox or would it have to be narrowed?

    Hey,

The lincoln/Cosmo are wider vehicles than the '49-'51 Shoebox.

Someone care to explain narrowing a bumper?

Is it as easy as taking a piece out of it, and just welding it back together?

    Yes and no!

Where you take the piece out is the issue. It's usually best to remove the section from the portion of the facebar with the least amount of shape or form, usually behind the overriders. Any radical shape change of the surface of the facebar will require some advanced metalshaping skills to pull this off. Your fitment and welds must be top drawer, or your plater will charge you big coin to make the part a winner.
