I'm thinking the same thing from the opposite end. It's a mild 91°F here today, and I can just feel the radiant heat coming off that roof sheeting!

TIC (totally irrelevant comment): The single rear fender is hysterical, but why not one on the right front also? Seems rocks n water from the front would be as agrivating as grinding off your elbow from behind! Gary
I thought I was going to fail today, but I just thought up my next crazy question of the day. By any chance, have any of the single seat cycle cars ever been equipped with side cars for a passenger or cargo? Ducking for cover, Gary

If one wants to build something along that line what kinds of resources are there for this kind of project?
There were several "handbooks" for cycle car builders written about a century ago, and at least one has been reprinted in the interim.
gnichols -- I imagine there's only one fender because that's a race only car. Grinding on my elbow would be a greater hindrance to driving than flying mud. Saved a pound or two by only having the one absolutely necessary fender.
I don't thin the sidecar idea is all that far fetched. Why not on a narrow single seater? The real answer it's likely never been done, however, is because the single seaters are mostly racers. Those intended for more that "sporting" use are side by sides (I like the offset seat models, narrow but adequate shoulder room) or tandems.

Well, as long as we are this far OT--37- did you realize that Jerry Sherman had at one time a Renault WW! tank? His mom, woman who in her younger days had been a hunter of North American big game--and had the heads hanging on the wall to prove it, didn't think much of it because it tore up the grass too much--so it went to Cole Palen's Rhinebeck NY airfield.
and now back to our regularly scheduled programing----
Was it a Renault FT 17 or an M1917? If it's the one they have now, I think it's the American built M1917.
Sorry to drag out the OT, but the Rhinebeck tank is an M1917- an Americanized version of the Renault (different caliber main gun and a Buda engine):
