great stuff ans info so far. I'm leaning more towards the (7110) with two edelbrock 500's. I was just wondering what kind of cam i should put in with this combo? The motor right now is just a stock 70's 350 4 bolt main block.

Gotta love them "010" 350 blocks!! :D When ever I needed one from the scrap yard, I'd ask for a 350 4-bbl motor out of '70-'71 Chevy or GMC pickup... They also came with forged steel crankshafts along with the 4-bolt blocks..... :)

I did'nt want ANY extra cables up top. so when it was time i knew which lever too grab and shift to get into first or second which ever the case may be. makes driving the car alittle more fun also.[IMG]

  21. let me guess you got that formula from Hot Rod Deluxe.. ive been thinking of building one based off that. how much did it cost ya in total, and was it worth it? thanks.

Actually, that was my formula in Hot Rod Deluxe...That was my engine in the story.
Asking me the cost doesn't really work... some of the stuff was donated for the story, some I swapped with Lamar for, he pretty much gave me the run of his shop and equipment to put the thing together, I got A LOT of bits from swap meets and Ebay.

Was it worth it? Ask me next summer when I'm side-stepping the clutch at 6,200rpm!

I asked Lamar Walden about gear drives, specifically if he'd ever dyno tested one. He said the one he dyno's cost like 23 horsepower.
With a 4-inch bore, you should be able to run bigger valves than I did... I kept them at 1.94 rather than 2.02, because being that close to the cylinder wall on a .060-over 283 would have shrouded the valve and hurt power.
If I went with a 4-inch bore, it'd definitely have gotten 2.02 valves.

I think my basic combo would make at least 25hp more if I had a 4-inch bore and 2.02/1.60 valves in the heads. I'd like to build a 301 (with fewer cubes than my stroked 283) and test the theory. I'd LOVE to see what running fewer cubes but with the bigger bore and bigger valves would do to power.

    I've got a '62 truck 283 that'll go .125-over for the 301 combo...

NICE car! I really dig the color combo--especially the white firewall and inner fenders.

You should look for the sandwich piece that goes between the top and bottom halves of that intake--it was a cast plate with funnels that fed down into the runners. The runners stick up off the floor of that intake, creating a trough inside the bottom half of the intake. Fuel can pool there, an a backfire will ignite it. I've heard it's pretty spectacular when it happens!
The fix was that additional piece.

  29. Hey Brad thanks for the kind words about my old 55 and your right on about the pooling that can take place with that vintage TR1 design. Back in the day we would also fill the lower half of the intake with resin to stop the pooling also. At this time the intake has work well ....not as good as my taller mid 70's TR1 but not too badly.

At this moment I havn't seen that "sandwich piece"...I've heard of them but they must be faily rare. Thanks again for the good vibes brother.
