  1. Looks great now. Did you paint it yourself?

Yes, my first attempt at painting a car. It's not perfect, and more of a 20' paint job. But I'm OK with it.

Some more updates since I painted mine last month. Went back and forth on whether I was going to get out my brush and do some lettering or not. In the end I decided I wanted to break up all that white a little, so I did a little lettering.

And the name on the door was my dad's name. His first new car was also a '39 Chevy.

Thanks. Had a few people tell me not to do it, but once I finished the lettering they all changed their minds about it, and said it was a good idea to do it.

  20. Here's another early one - my 31 5W Sport coupe. SBC, TH400, 4-linked, narrowed 9".

I got to the point in my life a few years ago and said to myself - what do I really want...I had been going through a few vehicles and they were all fine, but really "What's my dream car?". I knew the answer - an early 30's Chevy coupe - an old hotrod from the 60's or 70's that needed some love - preferably a 5W, but maybe a 3W, bonus with a rumble seat.

I found exactly what I wanted and enjoy driving it as much as I can! My daily is a 65 C10 SWB and I have a numbers matching unrestored 68 RS/SS396 Camaro, but the 31 is my baby!

Wow! Looks like it had a tough life after you sold it! At least it was still around, and on the road!

Here is one for you @themoose

    Hello,

We were driving around another coastal community that we literally grew up in as teens and 20 somethings. Things just don’t look the same, but, that was to be expected. The one thing we have always seen as we drove through the area, was the density(homes/businesses/hotels) and traffic all around us.

But, one thing that never gets old is seeing a cool looking 1937 Chevy Coupe that was one of the nicest builds we have seen in quite some time. The black 37 coupe had all of the items that most people would love to have in their own builds. The look definitely said: 1950s hot rod.

We did not stop to inquire about the Chevy coupe, but it looked well done and finished nicely. It certainly would be a nice coupe to make daily driving fun, even during the pandemic restrictions.

Prior to the Tahitian Red Color that was on Doug Cook’s 1937 Chevy Coupe, it was painted black. So, the similarities are endless. Except the Tahitian red 1937 Chevy Coupe is/was a record setter at the dragstrip, while still retaining the legal street Gas Coupe and Sedan label.

Here is a teenage kid trying to absorb all of the speed secrets that made this 1937 Chevy Coupe so great. The Chevy Coupe of Doug Cook, always made a great show, in the build, in the records it set in the C/Gas and B/Gas and being street legal while setting those records.

  28. I posted a picture of my 39 Chev that I talked about at the beginning of this post and how I happened to see see it again close to 50 years later at a show. I explained that I knew how it was my old car because of some of the modifications I had made to the dash and how it had the fiberglass front fenders that I had installed back in the day. I was never able to talk to the owner at the show so I couldn't get any history. I just got notified my a moderator that they decided to delete the image because it had modern wheels. I guess trying to show the history of a car that you built over 50 years ago some in a violation of the rules. I took the liberty of changing the wheels to chrome reversed wheel and am reposting it so you can see how the years have taken their tole but at least it's still kicking....

Glad you were able to change the wheels in the picture so we can still see your old '39. It's a shame that such a small thing would cause the image to get deleted.
