I never really appreciated this body style before but they are cool. Don't see many around were they a low production number body style?

  10. Great photos, I've always loved these cars. I've had two of them, a '50 and a '51. No these were not low production number cars, hot rodders just never seemed to notice them until recently.

  21. I banged these scallops out in a day or so with some spray paint. In fact the radius of the inside edge was done using the spray can top.

  27. So here's what mine looks like now. I scored a set of pretty decent '52 fenders cheap (no filler and only one minor rot spot), and it dawned on me I know where there's a decent '52 grille stashed, so I grabbed them. These fenders are just mocked up for the time being, I'm not going to bolt anything on until the engine and steering swaps are done. (V8 going in, '54 box which will be modified to run a later column).

When I took the '49 fenders off my car, they seem to be at least 10 lbs heavier than the replacements, looking the old ones over, I think they have a 1/8" to 1/4" coat of bondo over virtually the entire surface. I knew they had some around the headlights and a couple other spots, but had no idea there was so much of it - I had to chip some off the bottom to get some of the bolts off. Inside, they don't look too bad other than a couple of spots that must have rotted, so why so much filler I have no idea. But the rocker on this side is a replacement that needs to be cut off and redone, it's so crooked I'd have to bend the door to make it fit the opening right. There's a lot of very old and very poor bodywork to slowly correct on this car.

To top that off, I'm going to have to replace the right front body mount at the firewall. Rotted clean through. Same car the fenders came off provided me with a replacement, though.

Great thread. These cars make for nice bombs or smooth customs. Can't lose either way.
