March 6, 1960. Western Speedway, Gardena, Ca. The most reproduced photo in the history of West coast jalopy racing. Driver Art Atkinson is thrown out the top of his '32 Ford and survives with only minor cuts and abrasions. He raced the next weekend.

Good thing the roll bar kept his head from hitting the back of the cab.

Did any of these cars or parts from them survive? Just hope a few of those Coupes are still with us. Bob

Once upon a time in Los Angeles, a 1932 Ford Coupe could be bought for $5:00, and raced. Jalopy racing was the entry level for automobile racing. A driver had to start somewhere, and the equipment was available. I saw Parnelli Jones 2-weeks ago at Irwindale Speedway. Parnelli started in jalopies and won the 1963 Indy 500 as a driver.

The space station concept from the 1950's. In my early youth I would look at this drawing for hours and fantasize how cool it would be living up there.

From the HAMB thread "Cars on a pole". 1962 car dealership Les Bacon and Son's Ford in Hermosa Beach, California. The car itself is from the early 1950's.
