Just picked this 54 dodge panel a few weeks back and am in the process of righting a few wrongs and putting my own touches on it...would love to see what everybody else has...gonna use mine as a shop truck for our silkscreening and embroidery business and for hawking shirts at cruises and shows _____________________________ coming soon! rodtees.com
Here is the Billetproof Panel as rendered by Jeff Allison. work is already underway, will post pics of the real deal later today.
thanx on the chop comment. when we had the roof off i was really tempted to try to make something like an el camino/ranchero out of it by using a pick-up roof & cab back and the lower portion of the rear body, but fortunately i stuck with the original plan. who knows how it could have turned out? maybe good; but probably butt ugly. drivetrain is a 283/T350. it fit the most important requirement when i put it in in '92; it was free! actually the engine came in a '66 impala that my grandmother bought new shortly after my grandfather passed away. the car eventually got passed around the family; dad, cousins, and even me. my nephew had grand plans to restore the car (red 2-dr hardtop) so he could drive it when he turned 16 but it got half done and he lost interest. i stepped in after it had languished for several years and obtained the engine, which had all the overhaul parts purchased but not installed. anyway, that little engine has buzzed this truck around for over 15 years without ever skipping a beat. there is no odometer, but i imagine that i've put well over a 100K on the clock since the rebuild. the tranny was a boneyard core that i had rebuilt. i've got a 700R4 that i might put in it should i ever get around to it. if the 283 ever craps out i've got a couple of nailheads i'd like to see in there, but it's not broke yet so i'm not fixin' it.
Have a quite a few panels on my website http://www.paneltruck.com which I have been neglecting since I sold my 53 F100 panel last year. Maybe you guys can inspire me to fire it up again.
Was just thinking about one.. Hey where's the O'Brien Truckers !!! 33-34? Anyone have pictures of the fenderless 35 from around here? TEX ??
The original flatty 6 with an offy dual carb intake and split exhaust mated to a camaro rear end...she runs pretty cool but she huffs and puffs pulling some of the steep grades here in so cal....long term a small block will find it's way under the hood but for now I am diggin the nostalgia and fuel economy
