I've seen a lot of realy nice rides on the HAMB butI'd really like to see what guys are doing for 5-6k. I'm on my first car and am pretty happ where it's at. without an once of bodywork in it other than front floors, I'm at around $4500. for that cash, I have a boxed and updated frame(already clipped), 4 wheel disks,350/350(I know boring). It is also completely rewired with a new harness, fuel system and a new column. I have a set of WWW's for it just need some wheels. I know she ain't the prettiest thing but she drives straight, stops well is reliable and most of all FUN! So please let's see all the other poor S.O.B.'s like myself and what you're building

Free body, free drivetrain, $150 front end, $200 worth of metal for frame ect, $115 steering box, shell and rad $250, and some other nic nacs. I figure I've got about $800 so far. Man, I hope my old house sells soon so I can finish her off. Probably $2000 to $2500 more to get it done how I want it.

Don't have a pic yet, but my project is a 1930 Model A rod, The body is a murray body (ebay auction, $500, plus a lot of other stuff I don't need and have not sold yet) a 318 motor out of a cop diplomat, with tranny (free), a holly 650 (free), a 360 riser intake (free), and a 1929 front end (free), steering, brakes, master cylinder, other random bits are out of a olds 88 (the whole car was free). Still have left the frame (prob going to make it, about $150 in steel).

I still have a rear end left to find, and lots and lots of welding!

I'm in it $2500 right now including purchase price. She's running pretty good but not where I'm comfortable with it. bodywork, paint, interior, and lowering her this spring. I'm going to drive it daily damnit! So with all that said I'll have about 5k into it total.

Got this one just a few years ago for $900 in good running condition with the continental kit. New everything including stock rebuilt engine and full new interior headliner to carpet, just a hair over 4 grand.

Each of these was under 6 grand........ Its the chrome, wheels , tires and interior that drives the price up for me. I'm a sucker for wheels and tires.

  23. Just a few bucks under 6k, 13 years in the making, but almost all of was done by my son and me. that makes it priceless. still needs an interior, but she drives fine like she is.

all you guys have amazing cars/trucks for the investment. I think what killed mine was not being set up well enough to even try my own frame worh, that got pricey. He did a good job on the frame, she does go straight!. I think having a budget built car is all the fun and half the worrry of the higher dollar rides. not that I would turn away a high dollar ride mind you.

  26. $600.00 for the body and 3K more to get here, you never finish one of these.

OK, here ya go. '48 Pontiac, purchase price 400 bucks in '74. Got a free '68 Chevelle with a 230/powerglide, ran that for 3 years after the straight 8 died. Then bought a '68 Caddy DeVille for a C note, ran that 472 for the next 20 years. Then, bought a '94 Fleetwood Bro. and transplanted it's LT1, front front frame clip, rear axle, ABS, fuel tank, battery, wiring harness, and complete interior, including the carpet, for $2,000. Got a free set of tires won at a local rod run, on the Ralley wheels off the '94 Chev van that's the donormobile for my Diamond T. Add the cost of the paint job, done 25 years ago, and the JC Whitney top, also 25 years, old, and I think I have a winner for about $3K.

And, we've driven it, with this last engine/trans, over 40,000 miles, most of 'em pulling the trailer.

I built the 40 Chevy a few years ago. I think I had about 4500 cash but MANY MANY hours in it do do it for that. Sold it to a family friend who is having absolute blast with it.
The 52 Ford is my brothers. He is gonna have a little over the 6k in it but only because he paid me to do the work to it. Its got a 402 Chevy in it!
Hopefully later this year I will get to work on my 49 Plymouth. The mini-budget on it will blow the 6k mark under the table!
