    I put a pontiac 400 in my 26 T
I really wanted finned aluminum valve covers for it, I just never had the right $$$ at the right time for them.
the single 4bbl manifold on a hoodless car is also a nono in my book, but that was more $$$ that I did not have at the time...

anyway, I had to install a remote oil filter since the original was right where the frame rail is.
the headers are actualy more function than form. The exhaust dumps out straight at the frame rail, so I had to buy a set of poncho headers (more$$!) and then proceed to cut the flanges off and have some pipes bent for them. I bent the pipes to clear the steering linkage, and miss the frame.
the drivers side of the motor was fun too! since the fuel pump, motor mount, and starter are all in a row , there is no room for a corvair style cross steer box, so I went with a f100 box, and crammed it in behind the starter, and under the brakes.
I utilized some of the smog bracketry and welded up some others to mount a generator on the left side.
I ran into some issues with the thermostat housing, most pontiacs point to the left, and my radiator had a right side outlet, I found one that was almost straight at a wrecking yard , and mounted it backwards toget it to work.
I switched it from hei to points ignition to clear the firewall, and have a more traditional look.

Muncie 4 speed, 9 inch rear with two third members. 4.10's and 3.55's. With 4.10's this fuckin thing ran like a raped Ape !

Can't believe no one's mentioned the Purple People Eater... I think the mill started as a '56 Pontiac 317.

Yeah, that's what it was (I'm not sure of the brands, but it was the same kinds of parts.) On top of the carb adapters there were more adapters to allow two two barrel carbs to be bolted in place instead of a single four barrel. I saw the owner drive it into the show, and it seemed to run pretty well.

Not a 'traditional' Pontiac V8 engine in this car.

Perhaps a Buick 215 that came in the '62 Tempest/Lemans as an optional engine?

  26. The original 1969 Red Baron show car (based on the Tom Daniel model) had a late model Pontiac overhead cam 6. Maybe not "traditional" ih the pure HAMB sense of the word, but I'd love to see more of these motors used in hot rods

Here's weekend pic of the engine as it sits now. '60 Pontiac with orig engine, 389. I forgot the low hood clearance and trying to get the best fit filter for the air cleaner.
