I owned this '37 several years ago. I ended up trading it straight across for a restored '30 Model A with a rumble seat but I kept the (original?) floor mats which I'm using in my Edsel now. I wouldn't mind owning a 2 tone '55 or '56 someday even if it had to be a moredoor....

Always thought one of these would look great with some mild custom touches, say chrome reverse or Skylark wires with narrow white walls, plus some mellow Watson touches.

I also am curious if lowering could be achieved by somehow spoofing the load leveling feature to set the "normal" height lower. I'm assuming it uses some sort of mechanical sensor.

I guess I will never understand, why the 1948...50 body style is so much neglected, I'd say underestimated, especially there in USA...? Smooth, balanced design, not over done. The way I see most 50's 60's "smooth" customs were done in similar style than these were right from the factory... Open your eyes and look at these cars without pre-judgement.

Maybe people don't like the bathtub Packards simply because they are not as pretty as the 30s models? Compared to their contemporaries of the same period is another story. The first generation of post war styling was a bit drab compared to the mid 50s or early 30s.

  15. When I first joined up here, I thought I owned a 29 Packard.
Turned out, the car had been rebodied at some point, with a 28 Cadillac body, so now I have a Cadillac.
Still love Packards, even the ugly 40s ones.

There was a Packard motor home in a thread here last year, that was so freak in cool. Anyone care to put a link or pic of it here, I would, but don't have any time left today to do it.

  29. I dig Packards, too. Grandpa Hodges had a '39 that lasted them through the war and afterwards, then a '49, and a '53. Unfortunately all gone long before I came along. Here are a couple of renderings I've done on Packards. The first was a quick 'n' dirty mild custom treatment on a buddy's brother's car; skirts, dropped, shaved a bit, flippers:

And then a personal exercise on an image of a stocker...chopped, dropped and smoothed.
