C9, Got to say those wheels are one big KOOOOOOOL. I hope that the first close up photo was just a mock up with those lug nuts barely on the studs.

'Til a couple of months ago, My avatar Henry J had 15X11 Fenton Gyro slots on the rear and Torque Thrust Ds on the front. Torque Thrusts all around now. My '36 has unknown slots and Rocket Launchers.

    Hello,

Over the months of helping with the construction of the pristine 1940 Willys Coupe build of Atts Ono, it never crossed my mind that the big slicks, American Racing Equipment 5 spoke rims and the front Halibrands were different. At the time, that was “the” set up for drag racing hot rods and no one gave it much thought.

Big M&H slicks fit the bill and narrow tires were the front counterpart. So, the term “big/littles” played a part of almost every drag racing hot rod build. Less weight fronts, complimented the wide power hungry slicks and corresponding wide magnesium wheels for competition.

Within 2 years, there were different tire/wheel changes. One was to match the rear wheels to a different slotted version Halibrand, so the uniform look of slotted wheels front and back were the stylish thing to showcase. Then in 1966, the exact matching Halibrand Slots were on the front and rear.

One of the last known photos of Atts Ono’s 1940 Willys Coupe. Many changes were done, over the years, but after 1971, It was sold and was shipped to the Midwest somewhere. The final location is not available, but it certainly would be nice to find out how the 1940 Willys Coupe turned out over time.

In a conversation with Atts Ono’s younger brother, he said when the Willys was sold, their family was still feeling the loss of his older brother. So, back then, it was known who bought it and where it was going. But, over time, things tend to vanish with the house moves and lifestyle changes. So, since it has been over 48 years since the 1940 Willys was rolled up into a moving van headed to the Midwest adventures.

So, where is the pristine 1940 Willys Coupe that left So Cal and was never heard of again… anyone from the Midwest or Eastern seaboard know?

  18. I own many different kinds of wheels so I like to swap and flip flop them around for different looks
