I think trunk located tail lamps are normal only for convertible sedans.
I believe the phaetons' tail lamps were mounted on the rear fenders, like the rest of the 36s.

  2. Thanks, Al. So the one pictured is a Convertible Sedan not a Phaeton? How do they differ? (other than the tail lamp location). Picture me confused.:(

Phaetons are like roadsters, the windshield is moveable and no rollup windows.
Convertible sedans are like cabriolets, the windshield is fixed and it has rollup windows.
Think of them in pairs and it gets easy.;)

Not to be too pickey....but 37 roadsters and phaetons have fixed windshields and no roll up windows. Up to 36 is as you described.

I didn't know about the 37s and appreciate the added information.
I don't follow the "later" models that closely.
Tom, on the other hand, knows them all! Thanks again for the added knowledge.

Appears the convertible sedans trunk is also much different than the phaetons.

Everybody has likely seen this one before in the various magazines but it was great to see it in the special 36 parking area.

I had a pair of those briz bumpers that I was going to run on my car... The purple 36 is that Jeff Tann from rod and custom?
I Iike the way they look on 36s but I found a deal on my bumpers so I sold them

35-36 Phaetons actually were never originally made with a trunk. The phaeton with a trunk is built using the tail section of a 2 or 4 door touring sedan. Also not all convertible sedans had trunks . HamtownAl has been collecting data on each for years

It is Jeff Tann's car according to the sign.

Uncle Buck is correct about the tail end of "TEDS 36" shown above. I believe it was originally built long ago by Ted McMullen, a well known and well loved member of the LA Roadster club who has since passed.

Pickup looks great! Especially pulling a dragster and also on the salt flats... can't do much better than either one of those.

As to sharing information, after further reading in my copy of the book, "LA Roadsters, A Retrospective," I believe Ted McMulllen's 36 phaeton shown earlier was actually built by Gene Winfield.

The book is great reading as it shares the stories and cars of many of the members and associate members.
Some of the stories are hilarious!:D If you don't have a copy, I suggest you consider getting one from the club.
What a great legacy these guys have put together. I was honored just to be there and meet many of the guys and gals that have made the club tick for so many years.:)

Here's one that was sliced and diced in many ways... some very subtle... look at the hood.
The other is a convertible sedan I have been chasing for 10 years to find out the body ID tag. It does have an ID tag but it is a made up number and thus doesn't help narrow the gap of when they switched from slantback to trunk models.:( Never did find the owner... dadgum it!
